A Home for Orphans

A Home for Orphans

This full-size quilt is a compilation of dozens of leftovers--extra blocks from previous projects, along with samples and trials which didn't turn out. It even includes a Double Wedding Ring and a Sunbonnet Sue block pieced by my mother years ago. Quilters often refer to these types of blocks as "orphans." After years of collecting them, I finally had enough for a quilt. I united them with dark teal borders to match the carpet in our bedroom. I quilted it by hand, and it won a red ribbon in the Spokane Interstate Fair in 2008. This photo shows the quilt displayed at the Washington State Quilters annual show in Spokane, October 2008.
