Lone Star Quilt

Lone Star Quilt

In 2007 I entered this quilt in the Spokane Interstate Fair and won a blue ribbon for quilting. But the story started long before that. I bought the quilt top ($20 or $25) at a yard sale in 2006, and the seller told me she'd bought it years earlier. She didn't know who'd pieced it, and she never got around to quilting it. So, I promised to have it hand-quilted in time for the fair the following year. However, when I took the quilt home and examined it, I discovered it hadn't been pieced well. The star had been sloppily set into the green background, so the quilt top had plenty of wrinkles and puckers. Nonetheless, I wanted to keep my promise. I pieced a backing of eight-inch squares of my favorite Victorian pastels. Then I quilted it according to the star pattern, with wreath designs in the green background. I was happy with the result, and the pastel back makes a very fine front when I'm ready for a change in bedroom decor.
