Robby's quilt

Robby's quilt

I made this quilt in the summer of 2008 for my nephew, Robby Shelby, of Searcy, Arkansas. Robby, age 20, enjoyed sports of all kinds--from car racing to professional basketball. In high school he played football, and he participated in Little League baseball as a boy. Recently, though, he battled a different kind of foe: cancer. He was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in the summer of 2007, and since then he frequently visited St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis for a variety of treatments. But in spite of all efforts, Robby passed away on December 29, 2008. The quilt was to honor him and his courage when facing huge challenges. The front of the quilt features slashed squares (triangles) with a variety of sports motifs, like baseballs and footballs.  My sister and her husband, Linda  and Keith, requested that donations be made to St. Jude's in memory of  Robert Floyd Shelby.
