This quilt was fashioned from a cross-stitch design by Linda Jary of Arlington, Texas. “Les Geese” can fit a twin bed but was intended as a wall hanging. I made it in the early 1980’s for Linda, who wanted a catching display for craft and cross-stitch trade shows, where she sold her books of stitching designs. The geese’s bodies are made of hundreds of half-inch blocks, corresponding exactly to the grid on Linda’s cross-stitch pattern. After piecing the geese, I appliquéd them onto the blue background, added borders, then quilted the layers by hand. From start to finish, the quilt took 11 months.
